Welcome to Academy Chemistry Class:

I hope that you had a wonderful summer with your family and friends. I am looking forward for an exciting year with my new Chemistry group. This group will focus on learning that emphasizes conceptual understanding, student participation and responsibility. We will study about matter, chemical foundations, nomenclature, measurements and calculations, chemical reactions, reactions in aqueous solutions, modern atomic theory, stoichiometry, etc. During the semester, students will have an opportunity to do various projects to exhibit their ideas using their talent and creativity.

SUPPLIES REQUIRED FOR MRS. CHAVA’S CLASS: 

Two spiral notebooks, blue/black pens, pencils, erasers, and highlighters. Color pencils and markers are optional. Every student should bring a ream of paper and a tissue box.

 Donations: I appreciate any volunteers to donate supplies to my classroom any time during the semester.

Notes/Projects/Presentations – 20%

Labs & Activities – 15%

Class Participation – 15%

Welcome JA 7 to Mrs. Chava’s Science Class:

This year we will focus mainly on Earth Science and Environmental Science. We will study about scientific methods, metric measurement, what is happening inside the restless Earth, plate tectonics, earthquakes, volcanoes, etc. Later in the semester, Astronomy will be our focal point. We will finish the semester by studying about Ecology and ecosystems. During the semester, students will have an opportunity to do various projects to exhibit their ideas using their talent and creativity.

JA 7A Science Schedule for November 8th - 12th

Monday: Today student's should work on the topic - Sedimentary Rocks. They should do the lab assessment, practice/homework, and the quiz. Next they should move on to the next topic - Properties of Minerals.

Tuesday: Today student's should take a topic test on the previous chapter "The Rock Cycle". Next they should work on - Deforming the Earth's Crust.

Wednesday: Student's should work on - Forces in the Earth's Crust and Landforms. They should take a topic test as well.

Thursday: Student's should work on two topics today - Changing the Earth's Surface and The Force of Moving Water. They should do the vocabulary, on-line content, journal activity, practice/homework, and the quiz.

Friday: Today student's should work on - Water Erosion and Glaciers.

Chemistry Schedule for November 8th - 12th

Monday: Student's should work on the topic - Properties of Matter. They should do the on-line content, journal activity, lab assessment, practice/homework, and the quiz. Next they should work on the topic - Density.

Tuesday: Student's should take a quiz on the previous topic and then work on the next lesson - Changes in Matter. Later they should work on - States and state changes.

Wednesday: Today student's should take the topic test review and the topic test.

Thursday: Student's should work on two topics today - Energy of state changes and Intermolecular forces.

Friday: Finish up the quiz on the previous topic and then work on the next lesson - Phase Equilibrium.

Physical Science Schedule for November 8th - 12th

Monday: Students should work on the topic - Rates of Change. Next they should take the topic test and then move on to the next lesson - Understanding Solutions.

Tuesday: Today student's should work on the lesson - Concentration and Solubility. They should do the vocabulary, on-line content, journal activity, lab assessment, practice/homework, and the quiz.

Wednesday: Student's should work on the next lesson - Describing Acids and Bases.

Thursday: The next two topics student's should work on today are - Acids and Bases in Solution; and Digestion and PH.

Friday: Student's should take a topic test on the chapter Acids and Bases and then start on the next lesson - Measuring Motion.

JA 7A Science Schedule for Oct 18th - 22nd

Most of the student's did well on their E2020 science courses last week. However, we have many students who are not meeting their weekly target. There is a tool on your organizer that will help you be on track. When you login and click on the organizer you will see few icons on the bottom of the page. Then do the following:

1. When you click on the reports button, you have access to many different types of reports. To view any of these reports in detail simply click on the corresponding button.

2. When you click on assignments calendar it shows you what assignments you have completed (in green text), what assignments you should have completed and future assignments (in grey text), and what assignments you should be working on today (in blue text). It also shows the percent complete for the course after each assignment is completed.

JA 7A SCIENCE: This group should have completed the first unit - The Scientific Process and the topic test on it. Students who did not finish it should work on it over the weekend.

This week students should work on the following:

The second unit Evaluating explanations, should take the topic test and then move on to the third unit Earth's History.

NOTE: If a student is not meeting his/her daily target, they are responsible to work on it at home or stay after school.
