Monday – Learning the language of chemistry by naming compounds and writing their formulas is fundamental to being successful in chemistry. Today we will discuss Type-II Binary Compounds. Students will learn the rules to name and write the compounds. We will practice several formulas to make sure that students are familiar with the rules.
Tuesday – We will discuss Type – III Binary Compounds. Students will learn the rules for naming type III binary compounds. We will practice to learn the prefixes and suffixes to make the naming of compounds and writing formulas easier. Do the section review for homework.
Wednesday – Today we will learn to name and write formulas for more complex compounds. Students will learn to name common polyatomic ions, names for common acids, how the anion composition determines an acid’s name, etc. Practice the names and formulas of the polyatomic ions for homework.
Thursday – Discussion on naming acids. We will discuss the rules for naming acids, names and formulas of acids that do not contain Oxygen, names of some Oxygen-containing acids, etc. Later, we will work on the section review.
Friday – Students will work on the chapter review during class to study for the test.
