Monday: Since the “Identifying Minerals” lab took longer than it was planned to, we could not finish sec-2 on Friday. Today we will discuss sec-2, Igneous Rock. Students will learn to describe three ways that igneous rock forms, explain how the cooling rate of magma affects the texture of igneous rock, and distinguish between igneous rock that cools within Earth’s crust and igneous rock that cools at Earth’s surface. Do the notes and section review for homework.
Tuesday: Today we will discuss sec-3, Sedimentary Rock. Students will learn to describe the origin of sedimentary rock, describe the three main categories of sedimentary rock, and the three types of sedimentary structures. Do the notes and section review for homework.
Wednesday: Discussion on sec-4, Metamorphic Rock. We will learn to describe the two ways a rock can undergo metamorphism, explain the mineral composition of rock changes as the rocks undergo metamorphism, and describe the difference between foliated and nonfoliated metamorphic rock. Do the notes and review for homework.
Thursday: Today students will work on the chapter review for the first part of the class, and then study for the test, which will be on Monday, Sep 26th.
Friday: Students will watch videos on the rock cycle, igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rock formations.
