Monday – We will go over ch-3 test that students took on Friday for the first part of the period. Next, we will discuss sec-4.1, Studying Atoms. Students will learn about ancient Greek models of matter, list the main points of Dalton’s atomic theory, and explain how Thomson and Rutherford used data from experiments to produce their atomic models. Do the section review for homework.
Tuesday – Today we will discuss sec-4.2, The Structure of an Atom. Students will learn to identify three subatomic particles and compare their properties. They will learn to distinguish the atomic number of an element from the mass number of an isotope, and use these numbers to describe the structure of atoms. Do the notes and section review for homework.
Wednesday – Discussion on sec-4.3, Modern Atomic Theory. Students will learn to describe Bohr’s model of the atom and the evidence for energy levels. They will also learn to explain how the electron cloud model represents the behavior and locations of electrons in atoms. Do the notes and section review for homework.
Thursday – Today students will work on the chapter review during class.
Friday – Students will watch videos related to structure of an atom and the modern atomic theory.
