JA 7B Science Schedule for Feb 1st - 5th, 2010

CHAPTER PROJECT: Students are supposed to select a specific question, design and conduct a scientific experiment to investigate it. This project is due on February 8th, and is worth 200 points. Students who need extra help with this project can come to me after school. This project was assigned on January 25th.
Monday: Students will work on skills lab - Piecing information together. Next, they will work on ch-1 chapter review.
Tuesday: Today we will study in groups for the test on ch-1, What is Science?
Wednesday: Test on ch-1 for first part of the period. Next, we will discuss sec-1 on ch-2, Measurement - A common language.
Thursday: Presentation by the volunteers from Gem and Mineral Society. Students will work in groups and study about various rocks, fossils, magnetic sand, and flourescent rocks.
Friday: Discussion on common SI prefixes. We will learn the common conversions for length followed by a lab for measurement of length.

Physics Schedule for Feb 1st - 5th, 2010

Monday: Discussion on sec-2.2, Acceleration. While discussing this section we will learn about motion in terms of changing velocity, compare graphical representations of accelerated and nonaccelerated motions, and apply kinematic equations to calculate distance, time, or velocity under conditions of constant acceleration.
Tuesday: Students will work on numerous problems related to average acceleration, displacement with constant acceleration, velocity and displacement with constant acceleration, and final velocity after any displacement. Do the section assessment for homework.
Wednesday: Discussion on sec-2.3, Falling objects. Students will learn how to relate the motion of a freely falling body to motion with constant acceleration, calculate the displacement, velocity, and time at various points in the motion of a freely falling object, and compare the motions of different objects in free fall. Next we will work on problems related to falling objects. Do the section review for homework.
Thursday: Presentation by the volunteers from Gem and Mineral Society. Students will work in groups and study about various rocks, fossils, magnetic sand, and flourescent rocks.
Friday: Students will work on ch-2 chapter review.

Earth Science Schedule for Feb 1st - 5th, 2010

Monday: Discussion on sec-2.2, Energy in Earth System. Students will study about Earth's four spheres such as; the atmosphere, the hydrosphere, the geosphere, the biosphere; cycles in the Earth System - the nitrogen cycle, the carbon cycle, the phosphorus cycle, and the water cycle. Students will then work on a quick lab - Effects of solar energy. Do the section assessment for homework.

Tuesday: Today we will discuss sec-2.3, Ecology. We will learn about the ecosystem, three factors that control the balance of an ecosystem, how energy is transferred through an ecosystem, and various ways that ecosystems respond to environmental change. Next we will do a quick lab - Studying the ecosystem. Do the section assessment for homework. Students will also work on the ch-2 chapter review.
Wednesday: Test on ch-2.
Thursday: Presentation by the volunteers from Gem and Mineral Society. Students will work in groups and study about various rocks, fossils, magnetic sand, and flourescent rocks.
Friday: Students will work on a lab - Testing the conservation of mass.
