JA 7B Science Schedule for Mar 2nd - 6th

Monday: Students’ will work on “convection in the mantle” worksheet for first half of the period. Next we’ll discuss sec-3, Drifting continents. Students’ will learn about Wegener’s hypothesis, evidence, and theory of continental drift. Do the section assessment for homework.

Tuesday: Students’ will work on sec-3 worksheet for first half of the period. Later we’ll discuss sec-4, Sea-floor spreading. Do the section assessment for homework.

Wednesday: Students’ will work on sec-4 worksheet for first half of the period. Next we’ll discuss sec-5, Theory of plate tectonics. Do the section assessment for homework.

Thursday: Students’ will work on sec-5 worksheet for first half of the period. Later they with will work with their study buddies and study for the test.

Friday: Test on the chapter “Plate tectonics”.

Physical Science Schedule for Mar 2nd - 6th

Monday: Sections – 6.1 to 6.4 notes and section assessments are due today. Later students’ will work on practicing naming the compounds and writing their formulas followed by the chapter review.

Tuesday: Students’ will work on two different activities during the lab – “alloys” and “hydrogen bonding”.

Wednesday: Test on ch-6, Chemical bonds. Later we’ll discuss sec-7.1, Describing reactions.

Thursday: Discussion on sec-7.2, Types of reactions. We’ll learn about synthesis reactions, decomposition reactions, single replacement, double replacement, combustion, and oxidation/ reduction reactions. Do the section assessment for homework.

Friday: Discussion on sec-7.3, Energy changes in reactions. Students’ will learn about chemical bonds and energy, breaking bonds, forming bonds, exothermic/endothermic reactions, and conservation of energy. Do the section assessment for homework.

Chemistry Schedule for Mar 2nd - 6th

Monday: Students’ will work on numerous problems to apply their problem solving and unit conversion skills. Later they will work in corporate groups to study for the test.

Tuesday: Test on ch-5, Measurements and calculations.

Wednesday: Discussion on sec-7.1, Evidence for a chemical reaction and sec-7.2, Chemical equations. Students’ will learn about chemical formulas, equations, reactants, products, physical and chemical states, etc. Later they will work on the section reviews.

Thursday: Discussion on sec-7.3, Balancing chemical equations. Students’ will learn the rules to balance the chemical equations and later apply their skills on various equations. Do the section review for homework.

Friday: Students’ will work on the chapter review in groups. Later we’ll study for the test.

JA 7B Science Schedule for Feb 9th - 13th

Monday: To design and build a three-dimensional model project: Students’ already chose a model that they will be working on. Their plan was supposed to be approved last week. This project is worth 200 points and it is due on Tuesday, February 17th. Later students’ will work on a lab - measuring volume of regular/irregular solids, and density of solids.

Tuesday: Today students’ will work on their final lab – measuring the temperatures of various substances in degrees celsius and kelvin. Do the section assessment for homework.

Wednesday: Discussion on sec-2, Mathematics and science. Students’ will learn about estimation, accuracy, precision, significant figures, percent error, mean, median, and mode. Do the section assessment for homework.

Thursday: We’ll discuss sec-3, Graphs in science. Students’ will learn about the importance of graphs, plotting a line graph, draw a line of best fit, slope, and using graphs to identify trends. Do the section review for homework.

Friday: Test on ch-2.

Physical Science Schedule for Feb 9th - 13th

Monday: Test on ch-3, states of matter. Later students’ will work on an inquiry lab – How can you study objects that are not visible? Discussion on sec-4.1, Studying atoms. Students’ will learn about Dalton’s atomic theory, Thomson’s model of the atom, and Rutherford’s atomic theory. Do the section assessment for homework.
Tuesday: Discussion on sec-4.2, Structure of an atom. We will discuss about properties of subatomic particles, atomic number, mass number, scanning tunneling microscope, and isotopes. Do the section assessment for homework.

Wednesday: Discussion on sec-4.3, Modern atomic theory. Students’ will learn about Bohr’s model of the atom, electron cloud model, atomic orbitals, and electron configurations. Do the section assessment for homework.

Thursday: Students’ will work on a lab – Using flame tests. Later they will sit in groups and study for the test.

Friday: Test on ch-4, Atomic structure.

Chemistry Schedule for Feb 9th - 13th

Monday: Test on ch-3, Chemical foundations – elements, atoms, and ions. Later students’ will play chemistry bingo with the elements on the periodic table.
Tuesday: Discussion on sec-4.1, Naming binary compounds. Students’ will learn about type I and type II compounds, rules for naming ionic compounds, common cations and anions. Later they will work on the practice problems. Students’ need a lot of practice and they need to memorize these rules in order to learn to write the formulas and equations.

Wednesday: We’ll discuss type III compounds that contain non-metals, and the rules for naming type III binary compounds. Later students’ will work on the practice problems. Do the section review for homework.

Thursday: Discussion on sec-4.2, Naming and writing formulas for more complex compounds. Students’ will learn about common polyatomic ions, naming acids, writing formulas, etc. Do the section review for homework.

Friday: Review of ch-4 to study for the test.
