JA 7A Science Schedule for Aug 29th - Sep 2nd

Monday – Ch-2, sec-1, Branches of Earth Science; notes and section review is due today. We will discuss sec-2, Scientific Methods in Earth Science. Do sec-2, section review for homework.

Tuesday – Discussion on sec-3, Scientific Models. Students will learn how to choose the right model, climate models, etc. Do the section review for homework.

Wednesday – Today we will discuss sec-4 Measurement and Safety. Students will learn about length, volume, mass, temperature, area, and density. Do the section review for homework.

Thursday – Students will work on ch-2 chapter review for the first part of the block. Next, we will study for the test.

Friday – Test on ch-2, The World of Earth Science. No homework this weekend because students should work on their three-dimensional project, which is due on September 7th.

Academy Chemistry Schedule for Aug 29th - Sep 2nd

Monday – Quiz on the second 20 elements of the periodic table. Next, we will discuss sec-3.3 and 3.4, Atomic Structure and using the periodic table. We will learn about Thomson’s experiment, Rutherford’s experiment, modern concept of atomic structure, etc. Do the section reviews for homework.

Tuesday – Discussion on sec-3.5, Ions and their Compounds. Students will learn about ions, anions, cations, ionic compounds, etc. Do the section review for homework.

Wednesday – Students will play “Chemistry Bingo” to practice the element’s name, its symbol, and the atomic number. Later, they will work on few activities and handouts.

Thursday – Today students will work on the chapter review for part of the class period. Next, we will study for the test.

Friday – Test on Ch-3, Elements, Atoms, and Ions.

Academy Physical Science Schedule for Aug 29th - Sep 2nd

Monday – Students will be working on Ch-2, chapter review for part of the period. Next, we will study for the test.
 
Tuesday – Test on Ch-2.
 
Wednesday – Discussion on sec-3.1, Solids, Liquids, and Gases. Students will learn to describe the five states of matter, classify materials as solids, liquids, or gases, and explain the behavior of gases, liquids, and solids, using kinetic theory. Do the notes and section review for homework.
 
Thursday – Today we will study sec-3.2, The Gas Laws. Students will learn to define pressure and gas pressure, identify factors that affect gas pressure, predict changes in gas pressure due to changes in temperature, volume, and number particles, explain Charle’s law, Boyle’s law, and the combined gas law, apply gas laws to solve problems involving gases. Do the notes and section review for homework.

Friday – Discussion on sec-3.3, Phase Changes. In this section, students will learn to describe phase changes, explain how temperature can be used to recognize a phase change, describe each of the six phase changes, and identify phase changes as endothermic or exothermic. Do the section review for homework.

JA 7A Science Schedule for August 22nd - 26th


Monday: Discussion on sec-3, Scientific Models. Students will learn about physical models, mathematical models, and conceptual models. Later, we will discuss the benefits of models and building scientific knowledge that leads into a “Three-Dimensional Model” project. Do sec-3, section review for homework.

Tuesday: Discussion on sec-4 Tools, Measurement, and Safety. We will learn about compound light microscope, electron microscope, the international system of units, and the safety rules. Do the notes and section review for homework.

Wednesday: Students will work on the ch-1 chapter review during class. Next, we will review for the test.

Thursday: Test on ch-1.

Friday: Today we will discuss sec-1 in ch-2, Branches of Earth Science. Students will learn about Geology, Oceanography, Meteorology, and Astronomy. We will also focus our discuss on special branches of Earth Science such as; Environmental Science, Ecology, Geochemistry, Geography, and Cartography. Do the notes and section review for homework.

Academy Chemistry Schedule for August 22nd - 26th



Monday: Discussion on sec-2.3, Classifying Matter. Students will learn about pure substances, elements, compounds, mixtures, suspensions, colloids, homogenous substances, and heterogeneous substances. Do the notes and section assessment for homework.

Tuesday: Today students will work on the ch-2 chapter assessment during class. Next, we will review for the test.

Wednesday: Test on ch-2. Later students will play Chemistry BINGO!

Thursday: Discussion on sec-3.1 and sec-3.2, Elements and Atoms/Compounds. We will discuss about the abundances of elements, Dalton’s Atomic Theory, formulas and compounds, etc. Do the notes and section reviews for homework.

Friday: Students will work on their section reviews for the first half hour, and then they will watch videos on elements, atoms, and compounds.

Academy Physical Science Schedule for August 22nd - 26th



Monday: Ch-1 section reviews and chapter review are due today. We will spend the first half hour discussing questions that students had trouble answering over the weekend. Next, we will review all four sections to get ready for the test on Ch-1.

Tuesday: Test on Ch-1. Next, we will work on in-class activity. Sec-2.1 notes is for homework.

Wednesday: Discussion on sec-2.1, Classifying Matter. Students will learn about pure substances, elements, compounds, mixtures, solutions, suspensions, and colloids. Do the section assessment for homework.

Thursday: Discussion on sec-2.2, Physical Properties. We will discuss about viscosity, conductivity, malleability, filtration, distillation, etc. Do the notes and section assessment for homework.

Friday: Today we will discuss about Chemical Properties in sec-2.3. Students will learn about flammability, reactivity, forming a precipitate, etc. Do the notes and section assessment for homework.

Welcome to Academy Physical Science Class:


I hope that you had a wonderful summer with your family and friends. I am looking forward for an exciting year with my new Physical Science group. This group will focus on learning that emphasizes conceptual understanding, student participation and responsibility. We will study about motion and its causes, work power and energy, heat and temperature, simple machines, forces in solids, liquids, and gases, engines for air and space flight, science of musical sounds, thermal energy and heat, optics and optical instruments, chemical bonds, radioactivity, etc. During the semester, students will have an opportunity to do various projects to exhibit their ideas using their talent and creativity.


SUPPLIES REQUIRED FOR MRS. CHAVA’S CLASS:

 Two spiral notebooks, blue/black pens, pencils, erasers, and highlighters. Color pencils and markers are optional. Every student should bring a ream of paper and a tissue box.

 Donations: I appreciate any volunteers to donate supplies to my classroom any time during the semester.

This year we will focus mainly on Earth Science and Environmental Science. We will study about scientific methods, metric measurement, what is happening inside the restless Earth, plate tectonics, earthquakes, volcanoes, etc. Later in the semester, Astronomy will be our focal point. We will finish the semester by studying about Ecology and ecosystems. During the semester, students will have an opportunity to do various projects to exhibit their ideas using their talent and creativity.
